COLLEGE STATION – Morgan Frank of Texas A&M has been named the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played March 23-29, the conference office announced. Franks receives the honor for the second time in her career.
The sophomore from Oldsmar, Fla., was undefeated in both singles and doubles as she led the Aggies to two Big 12 road victories, a 5-2 win at No. 60 Nebraska and a 6-1 victory at Iowa State.
Frank won both of her singles matches in straight sets, defeating Nebraska’s Mary Weatherhold, 6-1, 6-4, and Iowa State’s Maria Macedo, 6-3, 6-0, both at the No. 2 line.
At No. 2 doubles, Frank and partner Christi Liles held off Jennifer Holmberg and Mary Weatherholt, 8-6, to clinch the doubles point against Nebraska. Against Iowa State, the Aggie tandem gave A&M the early edge, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Marie Chartier and Maria Macedo,
With the wins, Frank ran her team-leading singles winning streak to six and remained undefeated in Big 12 matches at 6-0, all at the No. 2 line. She also extended her doubles winning streak to five as she and Liles improved to 5-1 in conference matches, all at No. 2.
Frank is now 17-8 overall in singles, including 11-4 in dual matches, as well as 6-0 in Big 12 matches all at No. 2. In doubles matches, Frank is 17-7 overall, 10-4 in dual matches only, and 5-1 in Big 12 matches.
Frank and the Aggies returns to the courts this weekend for a pair of home conference matches. A&M plays host to No. 58 Missouri on Saturday and Colorado on Sunday. Both matches begin at noon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
