Longhorns sign Texas prep standout David Holiner and Bulgarian standout Vasil Mladenov to National Letters of Intent.
AUSTIN – Texas head men’s tennis coach Michael Center announced Monday the signings of prep tennis standouts David Holiner (Dallas, Texas/Bridge Builders Academy) and Vasil Mladenov (Sofia, Bulgaria) to National Letters of Intent.
Holiner has been ranked as high as No. 7 nationally in the junior class by TennisRecruiting.net. Holiner reached the round of 64 at the 2008 USTA National Championships and reached the quarterfinals of the 2008 ITF World Ranking Event in Montreal, Quebec. He also captured the 2008 USTA Texas Super Championship in Richardson.
“David has proven himself at the national level and has all the makings to become a great player at Texas,” Center said. “David has a very aggressive style with a big game and a big serve. We’re very lucky to have David join us next season, and I expect him to be an impact player for us.”
Mladenov, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, the hometown of UT junior All-American Dimitar Kutrovsky, holds a No. 891 ATP singles ranking and a No. 580 ATP doubles ranking. Mladenov enjoyed a productive 2008 season on the international circuit, particularly in doubles competition, as he captured two ATP futures doubles titles in Brazil and one in his native Bulgaria last year.
“Vasil is a big and strong young man with a versatile game,” Center said. “He loves to work hard. Vasil will come in and compete with everyone on our team right away. I expect him to be an All-America candidate for us.”
