Just a few notes before the Baylor release. Check the link for the draws, as there are a ton of great results in the A singles draw. There are actually too many to list individually, but it is easy to glance through the first two rounds. I will quickly mention Tyler Brown’s win over Julian Bley of Baylor and both Isamu Tachibana and Alberto Bautista’s each winning a couple of rounds. Really, I could go on, but I am extremely tired and wouldn’t do it justice… check it out for yourself.

On the day Baylor went 8-4 with six singles victories and two doubles wins.
“It was a good start to the tournament. We saw that the level of competition pushed us as we hoped it would,” men’s tennis coach Matt Knoll said. “I thought Jordan (Rux) and Attila (Bucko) both got the chance to fight through some tough situations. Overall, I thought our effort was good. I thought everybody competed hard. We certainly see a lot of things we need to improve on and we are going to work hard to do that.”
Tennis action started at 8 a.m. as doubles teams took to the courts. In the A draw round of 32,
Baylor’s Jordan Rux and Maros Horny, the third seed in the tournament, made quick work of Jens Vorkefeld and Yannick Weihs of Denver University with an 8-3 win. Rux and Horny are ranked as the No. 25 doubles team in the country in the preseason ITA rankings. The opening round of doubles was not as kind to the pair of Julian Bley and Attila Bucko who fell to Andre Stabile and Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech, 8-5.
Rux and Horny would advance out of their second round doubles match over Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead of Texas after Whitehead withdrew from the match with injury. The duo will play tomorrow in the quarterfinals round at 8 a.m. against a opponent to be determined.
In the A draw of the singles tournament, three of Baylor’s four players were triumphant in first round action. In second round action two of those three advanced to the round of 16.
In opening round play, fourth-seeded Rux defeated Fabio Biasion of Denver University 6-4, 6-1. Then 10th-seeded Bucko had to rebound from an opening set loss to take his round of 64 match 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 over James Langford of Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Bley, the 12th-seed, was not as fortunate losing to Tyler Brown of UT-San Antonio 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Horny took his opening round match 6-4, 6-2 over Alex Hilliard of Texas. In the singles B draw, Baylor sophomore transfer, Chris Gordon fell to TCU’s Cameron Nash 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Second round matches saw Rux and Bucko advance to tomorrow’s round of 16. Rux knocked out Collin Hoover of Texas A&M 6-2, 7-6, while Bucko took down Ben Chen of Texas 6-1, 6-2. Horny fell to the second-seeded Moritz Baumann of Wisconsin 6-4, 6-3. With the loss Horny is eliminated from the singles tournament.
