Houston – Rice women’s tennis coach Elizabeth Schmidt announced the signing of Dominique Harmath to a national letter of intent to play tennis for the Owls beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
“We are thrilled that Dominique will be joining our team.” Schmidt said. “She is a tenacious competitor and a proven winner both on and off the court. Dominique’s work ethic and passion for the game are unsurpassed and she will be a great fit with the culture of our program,” Schmidt noted.
Harmath, who is from Toronto, was a finalist in the 2009 Under 18 Outdoor Junior Canadian National Championship in singles in addition to capturing the Under 18 Outdoor title in doubles Saskatoon, Saskatchewan last April. She won the Ontario U/18 singles finished third at the 2009 Canadian U/18 Indoor singles event while reaching the finals in doubles.
Last summer Harmath reached semifinals in singles at the ITA Summer Circuit event at Cornell University as well as at the USTA Yale Summer Championships. She has also been competing on the ITF circuit and has a current WTA ranking of 964.
Harmath is a senior at Northview Heights Secondary School, North York, Ontario where she has achieved “First Class Honors” and received the Honor Roll Certificate for Excellence In Education 2007, 2008, 2009.
