Rice men fall to Fresno State, 4-0

The 34th ranked Rice men’s tennis team could not corral the red-hot Fresno State Bulldogs, who defeated a higher-ranked opponent for the second consecutive day to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Fresno, ranked 46th heading into the weekend, blanked the Owls 4-0 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University on Sunday.

The Owls (3-1) fell behind early, as the Bulldogs pair of nationally-ranked doubles teams swept to wins to give Fresno the doubles point. They kept the pressure on in singles, taking decisions at No.2, 4 and 6 to clinch the match.

Rice will be back on the court at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium next week to host a pair of ranked opponents. The Owls will welcome 29th-ranked LSU on Friday at 1:30 and then host 20th-ranked Miami on Sunday at 10 a.m.
