Texas Men’s Tennis Preview: St. Edward’s, Laredo C.C.

Longhorns return home after victory at Rice, host St. Edward’s and Laredo Community College simultaneously on Sunday.

WHAT/WHEN: No. 4 Texas (9-1) resumes play this weekend against St. Edward’s and Laredo Community College. Both matches will begin on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. Central. The Laredo match was previously scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

WHERE: Penick-Allison Tennis Center – Austin, Texas

LAST MEETING vs. ST. EDWARD’S: Texas defeated St. Edward’s by a 4-2 count on March 30, 2005 in Austin. Texas is 4-0 all-time against St. Edward’s.

LAST MEETING vs. LAREDO C.C.: First meeting between the two schools.

LAST TIME OUT: Texas defeated Rice by a 4-3 count on Thursday, Feb. 25 in Houston.

Under 10th-year head coach Michael Center, Texas features four singles starters who led the Longhorns to the NCAA title match in 2008 and to the NCAA semifinals in 2009. Senior Dimitar Kutrovsky is off to a fast start for highlighted by an appearance at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships last November.

Junior Ed Corrie joined Kutrovsky in the singles draw at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoors. Corrie knocked off USC’s top-ranked Steve Johnson to clinch the Longhorns’ 4-2 win over the top-ranked Trojans on Feb. 13 at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
