Rice Ladies Race Past Buffs, 6-1

Face #16 Arkansas on Sunday

The 44th ranked Rice Owls opened their weekend of action in Fayetteville, Arkansas by downing Colorado 6-1 at the Billingsley Tennis Center on Saturday.

The match was moved indoors but the change in surroundings did little to stymie the Owls, who grabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, and then closed out the match with wins by Kim Anicete, Dominique Harmath and Ana Guzman.

“Today was a solid effort by our team. It was the first time all year that we have played a match indoors and our players did an excellent job adjusting to the conditions. We are all really looking forward to this match against Arkansas tomorrow.”

The Owls will face the 16th ranked Razorbacks on Sunday at 11 a.m. Rice upset Arkansas, ranked 18th at the time last season, in Houston last season as Julie Chao rallied to give Rice a 4-3 decision, and earn C-USA Player of the Week honors.
