AUSTIN – The St. Edward’s Men’s Tennis team recorded their fifth sweep of the season Saturday and third in their last four matches. The #17 Hilltoppers took down Southeastern Oklahoma State, 5-0, recouping from their last match where they lost to Cameron.
St. Edward’s (10-5) captured all three doubles points in Saturday’s match-up with Southeastern Oklahoma. Ned Boone (London, England/LSU) and Eduardo Bencke (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Anchieta) won their match against Luka Radulovic and Filip Pavlovic 8-3, giving the Hilltopper pair their 12th win of the season at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles match featuring Pedro Bronstrup (Porto Alegre, Brazil/Colegio Farroupilla) and James Rogers (Bahagowan, Australia/Mackay Christian College) against Southeastern Oklahoma’s Laurent Veith and Chris Burns, the Hilltoppers duo prevailed winning the match, 8-2. The third point scored for St. Edward’s came in a heated battle where John Stockdale (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis HS) and Adrian Garza (Austin, Texas/AESA Academy) downed Billy Haugen and Renato Joao, 9-8. Stockdale is now two for two on the season gaining victories in both his doubles appearances for the Hilltoppers.
Rogers and Ryan Wiggins (Frisco, Texas/Old Dominion) completed the attack for the Hilltoppers in their dominate performance over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Rogers squared off against Haugen and would defeat him, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, while Wiggins would cruise to an easy, 6-0, 6-0, victory over Maurice Colbert at No. 5 singles.
The Hilltoppers will be back to action Friday where they will host Incarnate Word. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. here on the St. Edward’s campus.
