Dominique Harmath has been named the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week in recognition of her unbeaten performance during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Waco, Texas.
Harmath won both of her singles matches over the weekend, including her first career win over a player ranked in the top 50 as she had a hand in three of the Owls’ four points in close losses to 21st ranked Texas Tech and 36th ranked Florida State.
She defeated Tech’s Kenna Kilgo 6-0, 7-6 on Saturday then downed Florida State’s 48th ranked Mia Vriens 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday. She teamed with Natalie Beazant for a win in doubles vs. Florida State to help the Owls take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Harmath earned All C-USA honors in both singles and doubles in 2012 while she and Beazant were named the outstanding doubles team of the 2012 C-USA Championship. The pair went onto qualify for the NCAA Championship and win the first doubles match for the Owls in NCAA play in school history.
The Owls will be back on the road this weekend when they travel north to Oklahoma for a pair of matches. They will face the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Saturday at noon and then move north to Tulsa to open Conference USA play on Sunday with a 10 a.m. match.
